Summer is almost over, which means it’s time to get outside and enjoy all that the season has to offer. One spot where you can do just that is Pondhawk Natural Area. This incredible local park spans nearly 80 acres, with a handful of trails for hikers and bikers to explore. You access the park through the Spanish River Library Parking lot, and parking is free, so you can enjoy it as many times a week as you’d like without breaking the bank.
Bicyclists can cruise along the Nature Trail, which is about two-thirds of a mile, or the El Rio Trail, which is a quarter-mile paved trail. For those with sturdier bikes, you can also try the North Hiking Trail and South Hiking Trail, which combined are just over a mile and a quarter. Hikers are welcome on any trail, too. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy when you’re done exploring.
If you love a good view, be sure to stop at the observation platform, which has a stunning view of eight acres of local, restored wetlands. You’ll be able to spot local wildlife and its best at sunset!
